May 2021 Main Challenge - FACES and KRAFT BACKGROUND

Hello again and welcome to our May Main Challenge!

We have a treat for you! For the month of May, we have joined with Kraft Plus Challenges to create one challenge that you can enter both challenge sites with!

Here’s how it works:

Create a project on a KRAFT background using FACES as your inspiration.
Enter your project in either one, or both, challenges.

That’s it! Each challenge site will run their challenges as usual.

You can find the More Than Words challenge here:

And the Kraft Plus challenge here

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

LISA OXLEY

Lisa:  For those that know my creative process, know absolutely that creating with a brown/Kraft element is not really my bag. That stated, when I saw the theme, it took a few days for me to push myself into it. The DWM journal, luckily, provided a perfect substrate, and with a coat of gold gesso, I disconnected from the Kraft to celebrate the gold. A friend has sent me this Da Vinci printed book mark, and I'm so happy it caught my eye. A few ephemera elements and this baby was birthed.

MARIE JOHANSSON

Marie: Creating a layout with a Kraft paper as base might be the most natural thing to do for this challenge - and I do love working on Kraft for a layout - but as usual I want to give myself a real challenge. I had this piece of vintage book page in a Kraft type of paper that was gifted to me a couple of years ago. It's precious to me, and I have holding on to it for the perfect project. This was it! I added it as base to this Art Journal page. With a small amount of ink and a lovely stamped girl face I´m happy with the interpretation of this challenge.

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya: hello everyone! For this month my inspiration is the passport gift box and passport cover. I used KRAFT for the base of the box, also KRAFT paper cutting. I made the word FACE from toothpicks and placed it on the box. I made many FACES of the Moon from clay and moulds.

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah:  To illustrate this challenge, I wanted to represent different FACES across time and space. So I worked on my journal art with a KRAFT coffee filter background then put some planets and circles stamps using a stencil. For the portraits and the frames I used an AB Studio collection.

VIDHI JADEJA

Vidhi:  Hello, I have created an art Journal page on Kraft paper. I was inspired to add a FACE and paint it. I used a stamp image of this girl and painted with acrylic colours. Added a tagline of " I am enough. A thousand times enough. " Added this tagline for them who thinks Girls are not enough, for each and every step they need support. But sorry, times have changed. We are enough and can take all steps by our own. A thousand times enough.....

Heather:  The word FACES made me think of the different faces that we wear during our lives. This led to think about the different 'hats' we wear.  I seem to be switching from one hat to another a lot lately and sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming. I feel like it's a mystery which hat I'm going to be wearing from one hour to the next.
With this in mind I made a tongue-in-cheek board game - spin the spinner and see which hat to wear next!  This was a great way to use up paper scraps and leftover alphas. I printed an assortment of hats and typed the names of some of the 'hats' I wear on them. The spinner is a chipboard arrow and the face is one from ArtStacks.

Elle:  She wore a thousand faces all to hide her own. With the challenge being FACES and it being for May, I immediately though of Gemini, the twins, and so I drew two faces on the Kraft background, and drew little gold Gemini symbols on it. As it was an astrological theme (for me) I gave both of them galaxy background hair, eyes and mouth, with stars in their hair.

JINAL SAVLA

Jinal:  Hey my crafty fam! Hope you are well! I have used Kraft as my base.. And here is my abstract which is totally inspired by the ongoing pandemic... There is so much going on out there.. yet our lives don't stop.. Let us believe this is just a phase of life which will eventually fade so why not FACE it with all your teeth and a cuppa coffee!

Kat: For May challenge Faces and Kraft, I decided to make it romantic.
The beautiful woman's image was my focal point (Kraft picture). I built my art work around this FACE.
In my work I used KRAFT background paper but I love colour I decided to get some brown and gold.

April 2021 Main Challenge - PERFECT and SKETCH

Hello again and welcome to our April Main Challenge!

This month, we are challenging you to use our Sketch and the inspiration word Perfect.  We also have a special offer from one of this month's sponsors, so keep reading to find out what that is!

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - PERFECT
Creative Challenge - SKETCH

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

Who or what is PERFECT to you? Is it a person, a pet or maybe it's a perfect day? Have you had an amazing vacation or have you found the house of your dreams? Maybe you've found that special dress or want to create about your best friend. Share your idea of perfect with us! The creative challenge this month is a SKETCH by our very own Heike's AugenBlick. You don't need to add a photo if you don't want to and you can flip and interpret the sketch any way you like. We just need to see that you've based your project on this design.

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

Kat:   I don't remember when I work following a sketch and was surprised when I finished. I used watercolor and stamps to add details and textures. Papers and accessories make up the composition. The word PERFECT takes on meaning together with "take flight". Each of us is closer to being perfect if we hover slightly above the ground.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa:  When I think about "perfect" things, I feel there really is nothing is more "Perfect" than Mother Nature. Combing hand draw natural elements with ephemera pieces, this journal page attempts to combine elements from the sketch to fit the page.

MARIE JOHANSSON

Marie: I used to love to create following a sketch and was surprised about how much I did struggle with this. I added a scribbled square (not that square if you look at it...) and the used watercolor pencils and stamps to add details and textures. A piece of washi tape added some sparkle and what not to love about the picture, I actually picked it with the word perfect in mind. I love that the lady on the picture is perfectly imperfect. I wrote the title by hand as a last thought. I almost wrote NOT perfect since the layout is just a mismatch of things that was laying on my desk.

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya:  I created a funny page with funny faces of myself and my husband when we first started dating more than 14 years ago.  The word PERFECT I have written by hand several times. It was the perfect time, carefree and so much fun!

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah:  PERFECT, in my eyes there is nothing more perfect than the beauty of a child. and that's what I wanted to represent on this page. I used AB Studio papers.

VIDHI JADEJA

Vidhi:  I have tried to show a PERFECT " attitude " here for this MAN. Somehow I always likes old B/W pictures and the trend of fashion they had was amazing. They really don't need any 20th Century make up, photography, branded clothes or any App to filter their pictures. They have that in built fashion and attitude in them, Which I love always...

Usually I add old B/W pictures in my Layouts as they speak their own language.  Hope You like this SKETCH and Vintage style of layout.

Heather:  On a walk while on holidays we found this amazing hollow tree. On the walk we all marvelled at nature's PERFECTion.  I flipped the SKETCH so the person in my photo wasn't looking off the page but I followed it quite closely. It was a great sketch!

Elle:  You don't have to be PERFECT to be amazing is the quote handwritten at the top of my page over the perfectly imperfect background in my art journal. I rotated the SKETCH 90 degrees to the left to better fit my art journal page.

JINAL SAVLA

Jinal:  Hola! Here is my inspiration for the month.. I have followed the sketch...Did some Zentangle... it is something I love to do in my spare time... It helps me to gather my thoughts, reflect on positives, calms me down, introspect on my action and just let me PERFECTLY be me.. it is literally my me time hence I have depicted the same in my sketch...

"This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfection"

March 2021 Main Challenge - CARPE DIEM and MARKMAKING

Hello again and welcome to our March Main Challenge!

This month, we are challenging you to Carpe Diem or Seize the Day!

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - CARPE DIEM
Creative Challenge - MARKMAKING

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

Carpe Diem means Seize the Day! How do you or your friends or family make the most of life's opportunities? Does your child love school? Is someone starting a new job? Or maybe you're simply enjoying what life has to offer like taking a walk in the sunshine or a swim at the beach. For an extra challenge, add some MARKMAKING to your project. Add lines, doodles or hand-drawn stars. We don't mind what it is so long as you make some sort of hand-drawn lines on your project!

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

Heather:  I love the saying 'CARPE DIEM'. I believe we should make the most of every opportunity life presents us with. We should get out and explore this amazing world.
For my MARKMAKING, I drew a tree based on one near us at our favourite beach destination. I drew lots of tiny branches and roots, making many marks in the process!

ELLE WILSON

Elle:  I found this woman in a magazine and I knew I had to use her to express Carpe Diem on my art journal page. I also used a handwritten quote from a poem by Mary Oliver that seemed to fit with the theme. For my markmaking I used pencils and crayons to scribble on the painted background and made small marks in groups of threes.

JINAL SAVLA

Jinal:  At first I didn't understand the term "Carpe Diem" fully only until few years ago, when I experienced life at its fullest when I had my very first Bungee Jumping..
Well, this quote explains well the exact understanding...  “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” Using a black marker, I have doodled around the border of the journaling card as my markmaking.
Kat: CARPE DIEM is a slogan that should be repeated to ourselves at every moment, there are so many wonderful moments in our lives. In my work, I wanted to show that we can free ourselves from the cages that limit us and be free.
For the MARKMAKING, I created background work with my black marker with stamps and stencils. I was fun working on this project.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa:  Inspiration comes from capturing the joy of each day, being open to fresh experiences, new people and eternally seizing inspiration.  Filling ones cup everyday, with a colourful light of hope.
Repeated mark making reinforces my signature style while creating interest and detail.

MARIE JOHANSSON

Marie: I took this photo an early morning at work. I was ending my night shift, exhausted and suddenly I saw this piece of paper flying around the floor, sun shining on it. Felt like someone was telling me something. There just as the day was starting. It fit so well with the quote. Making marks is something I do on always every project I create. It do it because it add a personal touch - one of the things I ”mark” with is straight lines & circles. As on this page I also added scribbles and arrows.

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya: Hello everyone! Carpe Diem means seizing the day! I really miss my russian village, warm winter evenings and hot tea from a samovar. I created a photo frame with a picture the other day! "Carpe Diem" - live this moment, take care of it in your heart!
For my MARKMAKING, I sprayed the foliage on the background, hand-painted the paper cut, wetting my finger in wax.

SARAH DORGERE
I wanted to represent CARPE DIEM with poppies. The poppy is an ephemeral plant and for me it is necessary to enjoy the moments of life even if they are ephemeral. listen to them and take the time to enjoy them.
Heure the MARMAKING are all the poppies that I made with a black felt. I also brought out the outline of my journal art with a black line and some zigzag to represent the heart rate

VIDHI JADEJA

Vidhi:  I have altered a cover and back side of my art journal book of 2021! Carpe Diem means “ live in this moment “! I guess butterflies are perfect example of this wonderful meaning ... through their journey is short from caterpillar to butterfly but they know how to live that moments the fullest.  Just when the caterpillar thought her life was over she began to fly ...  You will never have this day again so make it count and live happily to enjoy all wonderful days.
I have added tagline and my name sign with a marker to add my mark
