Special Guest Spotlight on IRIS PEREZ December 2022

 Hello everyone!

This month, we are very pleased to welcome Iris Perez, who was one of our September
 2022 winners

We hope you enjoy her take on our December Main Challenge and do please visit her social links which are listed below in her Artist Bio.

Artist Bio

My name is Iris, I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been making different types of crafts for more than 25 years and in the last few years, I have focused on the mixed media associated with scrapbooking. Although I like intervened or recycled objects a lot, I have a weakness for paper and I really like it as a support when creating.

Q & A with Iris

How long have you been art journalling?

I have been writing different art journals for several years.

What is your favorite supply or product?

My favorite art supplies are pigments, I see infinite possibilities in them.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?

I like a lot of styles that are too contrasting. Sometimes inspiration just comes out of nowhere itself.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?

I don't have one, I'm always changing.

In my art journal, I have always wanted to try...?

EVERYTHING! I see potential in unusual materials sometimes.

And finally, why do you enter art challenges?

Because I like to participate and promote this wonderful hobby. I know that I can touch at least one soul.

Iris's Interpretation of our December Main Challenge

Iris says:  For this art journal page, I used pigments and inks. Once dry, with a stencil, I applied embossing ink and did the same hot with shiny powders.

Then, I used the same stencil to apply gesso irregularly, I also spread it with a spatula generating textures and light in different parts of the project.

I used an image from a collage book that inspired me for the sentiment with the word sparkle.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful journal spread with us Iris!  We hope Iris's beautiful work inspires you to enter the December challenge!

Here's a reminder of our current Main Challenge:

Word Inspiration - SPARKLE
Creative Challenge - ADD GESSO

Don't forget that you can find all of our challenge details and extra information, as well as Iris's published interview in our new magazine Artful Pages.

April 2021 Main Challenge - PERFECT and SKETCH

Hello again and welcome to our April Main Challenge!

This month, we are challenging you to use our Sketch and the inspiration word Perfect.  We also have a special offer from one of this month's sponsors, so keep reading to find out what that is!

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - PERFECT
Creative Challenge - SKETCH

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

Who or what is PERFECT to you? Is it a person, a pet or maybe it's a perfect day? Have you had an amazing vacation or have you found the house of your dreams? Maybe you've found that special dress or want to create about your best friend. Share your idea of perfect with us! The creative challenge this month is a SKETCH by our very own Heike's AugenBlick. You don't need to add a photo if you don't want to and you can flip and interpret the sketch any way you like. We just need to see that you've based your project on this design.

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

Kat:   I don't remember when I work following a sketch and was surprised when I finished. I used watercolor and stamps to add details and textures. Papers and accessories make up the composition. The word PERFECT takes on meaning together with "take flight". Each of us is closer to being perfect if we hover slightly above the ground.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa:  When I think about "perfect" things, I feel there really is nothing is more "Perfect" than Mother Nature. Combing hand draw natural elements with ephemera pieces, this journal page attempts to combine elements from the sketch to fit the page.

MARIE JOHANSSON

Marie: I used to love to create following a sketch and was surprised about how much I did struggle with this. I added a scribbled square (not that square if you look at it...) and the used watercolor pencils and stamps to add details and textures. A piece of washi tape added some sparkle and what not to love about the picture, I actually picked it with the word perfect in mind. I love that the lady on the picture is perfectly imperfect. I wrote the title by hand as a last thought. I almost wrote NOT perfect since the layout is just a mismatch of things that was laying on my desk.

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya:  I created a funny page with funny faces of myself and my husband when we first started dating more than 14 years ago.  The word PERFECT I have written by hand several times. It was the perfect time, carefree and so much fun!

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah:  PERFECT, in my eyes there is nothing more perfect than the beauty of a child. and that's what I wanted to represent on this page. I used AB Studio papers.

VIDHI JADEJA

Vidhi:  I have tried to show a PERFECT " attitude " here for this MAN. Somehow I always likes old B/W pictures and the trend of fashion they had was amazing. They really don't need any 20th Century make up, photography, branded clothes or any App to filter their pictures. They have that in built fashion and attitude in them, Which I love always...

Usually I add old B/W pictures in my Layouts as they speak their own language.  Hope You like this SKETCH and Vintage style of layout.

Heather:  On a walk while on holidays we found this amazing hollow tree. On the walk we all marvelled at nature's PERFECTion.  I flipped the SKETCH so the person in my photo wasn't looking off the page but I followed it quite closely. It was a great sketch!

Elle:  You don't have to be PERFECT to be amazing is the quote handwritten at the top of my page over the perfectly imperfect background in my art journal. I rotated the SKETCH 90 degrees to the left to better fit my art journal page.

JINAL SAVLA

Jinal:  Hola! Here is my inspiration for the month.. I have followed the sketch...Did some Zentangle... it is something I love to do in my spare time... It helps me to gather my thoughts, reflect on positives, calms me down, introspect on my action and just let me PERFECTLY be me.. it is literally my me time hence I have depicted the same in my sketch...

"This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfection"

Special Guest Spotlight on Veana R

This month, we are very pleased to introduce you to Veana R, our first Guest Designer for 2021!

We invite you to browse through her blog and Facebook and get to know her better through her beautiful work that as made her a favourite here and elsewhere.

Hi! My name is Zvezdana Rot, aka  Veana R. With my husband, son teenager and lovely puppy Gaja, we live  in a beautiful house, near the Adriatic sea. I come from Europe, Slovenia - the only country in the world that has the word LOVE in its own name, so let's  stay in love. I love my garden, where I am inspired by colourful and fragrant flowers, I love reading, because one life  is not enough for my curiosity and  I love scrapbooking, crafting and Mixed Media.

My crafting began 5 years ago with greeting cards for my family and friends. Then in June 2017 I started with my own blog and today I can say, that this is my perfect hobby, where I can spread my art creative wings.

You can see more of Veana's beautiful work on her blog and on Facebook, just click the links below.

Here's a reminder of our current Main Challenge:

Word Inspiration - BEGINNINGS
Creative Challenge - WASHI TAPE

And now, let's enjoy Veana's interpretation of our challenge:

The year 2020 was difficult and strange, but it challenged us. All the people of the world had the same feelings and wishes for the first time and we couldn't wait for 2021 to begin. I think BEGINNINGS is a word for this year, as Covid was for the last year. I hope 2021 will bring us back to our normal lives.

For a long time I wanted to create a Mixed media layout on a blank white page and this is my first. So, for me it's a new start, a new beginning to express my feelings for more empty space, more vibrant colours and more freedom.

I want to underline that in my project I used products - papers, stencil and stamps - from AB Studio by Aga Baraniak, Poland. Last year I won their prize here at More Than Words and all the products are just amazing and of great quality .

I am very honoured to be a Guest Designer here at More than words, as you are my favorite blog. A BIG THANK YOU to all members for choosing me and for your gorgeous creations every month that inspired artists all over the world.

Warm hugs and may this day fill your heart with  happiness!  Veana R.

A big THANK YOU to Veana for joining us as our
January 2021 Special Guest!  Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us.

We hope that Veana's bright and happy beginnings project inspires you to join us
in our January Main Challenge.

Special Guest Spotlight on Jonna

This month, we are pleased to introduce you to Jonna our November Guest Designer.

We invite you to browse through her blog and Instagram links and enjoy her lovely art that has entranced us since she first started entering our challenges!

Hi, I'm Jonna and I started scrapbooking 15 years ago. First of all to document my twin girls. After mainly making cards the last few years, I now try to get into making layouts again. And then the challenges at MTW is the perfect inspiration.

INSTAGRAM    BLOG

Here is a reminder of our November Main Challenge.

Word Inspiration - SEASON
Creative Challenge - LEAVES

Here is Jonna's interpretation of our challenge:

Jonna: I just had to choose fall for my project. But decided to make another approach than taking photos outdoors. So I asked my daughters what they associated with fall, and then took some photos and created the layout. Lots of diecut leaves combined with skeleton leaves. And I added the small words and some embellishments inbetween the leaves. The title ‘Høsten’ is the Norwegian word for autumn.

A big THANK YOU to Jonna for joining us as our
November Special Guest!

We hope that Jonna's beautiful project inspires you to join us
