April 2021 Main Challenge - PERFECT and SKETCH

Hello again and welcome to our April Main Challenge!

This month, we are challenging you to use our Sketch and the inspiration word Perfect.  We also have a special offer from one of this month's sponsors, so keep reading to find out what that is!

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - PERFECT
Creative Challenge - SKETCH

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

Who or what is PERFECT to you? Is it a person, a pet or maybe it's a perfect day? Have you had an amazing vacation or have you found the house of your dreams? Maybe you've found that special dress or want to create about your best friend. Share your idea of perfect with us! The creative challenge this month is a SKETCH by our very own Heike's AugenBlick. You don't need to add a photo if you don't want to and you can flip and interpret the sketch any way you like. We just need to see that you've based your project on this design.

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

Kat:   I don't remember when I work following a sketch and was surprised when I finished. I used watercolor and stamps to add details and textures. Papers and accessories make up the composition. The word PERFECT takes on meaning together with "take flight". Each of us is closer to being perfect if we hover slightly above the ground.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa:  When I think about "perfect" things, I feel there really is nothing is more "Perfect" than Mother Nature. Combing hand draw natural elements with ephemera pieces, this journal page attempts to combine elements from the sketch to fit the page.

MARIE JOHANSSON

Marie: I used to love to create following a sketch and was surprised about how much I did struggle with this. I added a scribbled square (not that square if you look at it...) and the used watercolor pencils and stamps to add details and textures. A piece of washi tape added some sparkle and what not to love about the picture, I actually picked it with the word perfect in mind. I love that the lady on the picture is perfectly imperfect. I wrote the title by hand as a last thought. I almost wrote NOT perfect since the layout is just a mismatch of things that was laying on my desk.

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya:  I created a funny page with funny faces of myself and my husband when we first started dating more than 14 years ago.  The word PERFECT I have written by hand several times. It was the perfect time, carefree and so much fun!

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah:  PERFECT, in my eyes there is nothing more perfect than the beauty of a child. and that's what I wanted to represent on this page. I used AB Studio papers.

VIDHI JADEJA

Vidhi:  I have tried to show a PERFECT " attitude " here for this MAN. Somehow I always likes old B/W pictures and the trend of fashion they had was amazing. They really don't need any 20th Century make up, photography, branded clothes or any App to filter their pictures. They have that in built fashion and attitude in them, Which I love always...

Usually I add old B/W pictures in my Layouts as they speak their own language.  Hope You like this SKETCH and Vintage style of layout.

Heather:  On a walk while on holidays we found this amazing hollow tree. On the walk we all marvelled at nature's PERFECTion.  I flipped the SKETCH so the person in my photo wasn't looking off the page but I followed it quite closely. It was a great sketch!

Elle:  You don't have to be PERFECT to be amazing is the quote handwritten at the top of my page over the perfectly imperfect background in my art journal. I rotated the SKETCH 90 degrees to the left to better fit my art journal page.

JINAL SAVLA

Jinal:  Hola! Here is my inspiration for the month.. I have followed the sketch...Did some Zentangle... it is something I love to do in my spare time... It helps me to gather my thoughts, reflect on positives, calms me down, introspect on my action and just let me PERFECTLY be me.. it is literally my me time hence I have depicted the same in my sketch...

"This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfection"

February 2021 Main Challenge - ROMANCE and ROSE

Welcome to our February Main Challenge, and since this month is usually associated with love and romance and St Valentine's Day, we have a beautifully romantic challenge board to inspire you.  We also have a special offer from one of this month's sponsors, so keep reading to find out what that is!

This month, we ask that you think about ROMANCE and to add ROSE to your project.

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.  The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it.  The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - ROMANCE
Creative Challenge - ROSE

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

February is the month for ROMANCE! How will you share your feelings about that special person? Or maybe you'll choose to create about a famous romantic relationship or the long marriage of your grandparents. Or maybe you're inspired by artists of the romantic period or even by a photo of a couple dancing.
Whatever you decide, we need to see a ROSE on your project. Or maybe you'll add the colour ROSE instead? It's up to you!

Design Team Inspiration

And now let's look at our first DT Inspiration for this month:

ROMANCE and flowers always go hand in hand so I made that the title of my page and flowers the focus of my art journal spread using collage, paint, ink, etc. The bouquet of ROSES for the rose requirement came from a magazine, and then lots of blossom around the rest of the page using a paper serviette.

The word ROMANCE inspired me to create about the fun my husband and I still have after being together for 37 years.
I cut circles from the ROSES paper from ArtStacks and featured a large rose on one of them.

JINAL SAVLA

For me when I hear the word Romance... it means countless cuddles and snuggles, uncounted hugs and kisses, entangled fingers, cheering for your victory or just being beside you in your low times... Romance has inspired me to create this layout using my wedding pictures.. the unforgettable memories I shared with him..

For this month's challenge, I created romantic canvas ROSES. For the Word Inspiration ROMANCE I used wedding photograph of a couple surrounded by paper roses.

LISA OXLEY

"The essence of romance is uncertainty"
My partner missed the relationship romance memo in life, so its been my job for many years, that is wearing thin now.

MARIE JOHANSSON

This was a really hard challenge for me. I consider myself a not so romantic person, and my partner is even worse than me. So maybe the lack of roses in my life is the reason why this was so much trouble.... Well, sometimes you just need to go with the task given - and who is not up for a challenge? Again I ended up making a Art Journal spread. I find that a perfect media to just try out my skills and dare to fail. I picked up what rose themed papers I could find, fussy cut them and added to the pages. I picked up the colors from one of the roses and gave the pages a soft tone of pink. I could not resist adding a bit of gold - that feels romantic too.... I'm actually really happy with how this turned out and maybe there is a string of romance hidden somewhere in me ....

OLYA RAGOZONI

Olya: Hi, everyone! I love mixed media and I like to create altered scrap.
I added the lettering "Holiday ROMANCE" for my mixed media photo frame about my niece. She is young and pretty! And she has everything good and romantic ahead! I used ROSES on my photo frame, painted them.  Sponsor topping 13Arts
Video tutorial in my youtube channel  You can watch Olya's video here.

The word ROMANCE immediately made me think of my wedding and our exchange of rings. Anyway who thinks about marriage, thinks flowers and ROSE especially.  I find that this collection of AB Studio paper lends itself wonderfully to this theme.

VIDHI JADEJA

Hello!  February is a month of love. For February the main challenge word inspiration is ROMANCE and the creative challenge is ROSE!  I am inspired by both challenges and I always believe if you can first love yourself then only then can you give true and pure love to others ...

“ TO LOVE ONESELF IS THE BEGINNING OF A LIFELONG ROMANCE !” As at the end all we need is love. I have used die cuts of roses and even flowers in my shadow boxes.  Hope you like it

Just a reminder that there will no longer be Runner Up, Random, or Mystery winners for our Main Challenge.  This year we have changed to a Regional Prize structure, whereby there will be multiple Main Challenge Winners, one or more for each Region.  The number of Winners/Prizes for each Region is dependent on the number of Sponsors for that Region.  Some of our Sponsors remain as International Sponsors but many are now Region specific. OCTOBER 2020 2nd Reveal of Main Challenge - NIGHT & NO FLOWERS

Welcome back to the 2nd Reveal of our OCTOBER Main Challenge
at More Than Words!

It's all about the beauty of the NIGHT and NO FLOWERS!

Our Main Challenge is based upon a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration:  NIGHT
Creative Challenge:  NO FLOWERS

HELPFUL TIPS FOR THE CHALLENGE

We want to know what you get up to when the sun goes down!  Do you go out partying at NIGHT, gaze at the stars, go to concerts or maybe go camping? Or if you like being tucked up at home with wine and Netflix, then we want to hear about that too! We need to see in your project how our word inspired you.  If it isn't obvious in your work, then please explain it in your post.

Many flowers close their petals at night, so we want to see NO FLOWERS on your project. Is this easy or difficult for you?

Heikes: For this challenge I had the perfect paper in my stash. "Under the stars" from 13arts. I wrote the word NIGHT on my background. For the creative challenge NO FLOWERS, well that wasn't that difficult for me as I'm not the biggest flower user anyway. On the photo is my daughter with her best friends. My inspiration explanation: There are two types of people. There are the early risers, the so-called lark birds, and there are the late risers, the so-called owls. I belong more to the lark birds.  That means that I can see little of the summer night sky because I am mostly asleep. Only in the Autumn months I can see something of the night sky, and that's always something very special. I love the clear autumn starry nights, it gives me a taste of the festive season before christmas.

Anastasia: My layout for the October challenge is very monochrome and laconic. I was inspired by our last trip to the mountains and the incredible NIGHT sky that we saw there. Every night, out comes these envoys of beauty, and they light the universe with their admonishing smile! Their beauty requires NO FLOWERS.

Jolande: The NIGHT slowly turns into the day. The FLOWERS are NOT welcome on this early morning.

Yulia: For the October challenge, I made a page in my artbook. NIGHT is the time to dream, walk, look at the stars, and of course make wishes! And I love to watch films with my husband at night))) In my artbook, I did NOT use FLOWERS, only paints, sprays and a chipboard.

Cecilia: One of the most peaceful moments is watching the stars at NIGHT. It is wonderful to imagine everything that is out there! My journal page needed NO FLOWERS!
Sarah: When I read the challenge word inspiration "NIGHT", I immediately thought of this outing we had with my son in Paris. It was an exhibition in the garden of plants. There were animals made of light in the garden. It was necessary to visit in the night time in order to be able to see their beauty fully and admire everything. This photo captured the wonder my son felt when he saw all the sculptures of light. For me the NIGHT is the moment when there is magic, dreams can begin, and NO FLOWERS are needed in order to see beauty.

Heather: I wanted to make an art journal page for this. I found this quote and it was perfect! It says, "NIGHT is to see the dreams and day is to make them true". There was conflicting advice online as to who coined this so my apologies to the author! I added some text in the corner saying "This is me to a 'T'" as I always do my best thinking and planning at night. It was easy to use NO FLOWERS on this - just lots of stars and night sky!
