Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - HIGHLIGHT
Creative Challenge - SUNSET COLOURS

We want to hear about the HIGHLIGHT of your day, week, year or life!
Has there been a birthday to celebrate, a good day spent
with a friend, or simply an event that made you
happy? Maybe the birth of a child, or a wedding, is a highlight.
Maybe it's a good book or a cup of coffee.
We need to see in your project how our word inspired you.
If it isn't obvious in your work, then please explain it in your post.

Whatever your highlight is,
we want to see it shown
off with glorious SUNSET COLOURS!
Please check out ALL our challenge rules in the RULES tab above.

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,
inspired by the HIGHLIGHT & SUNSET COLOURS Main Challenge!

DAISY: For this challenge, I made myself the HIGHLIGHT. In 2019, I made a lot of positive changes in my life. I started physical training and improved my eating habits. I did it for better health and to be an example to my 3 sons. For the SUNSET COLOURS creative twist, I made a yellow circle to represent the sun, and I used pink, purple, and orange on my embellishments.

LANUSIA: Life is full of memorable events and moments. My HIGHLIGHTED moments are those when I find out something new which impresses me greatly. When I saw the SUNSET COLOURS in the photos by Dominic Liam, I understood at once how talented this photographer is. His silhouette photography makes me think of people and nature.

ROSALIE: A beautiful SUNSET view over Hanoi was the inspiration for my sunset colours. It was one of the magical HIGHLIGHTS of our recent holiday. A beautiful country and welcoming people.

YULIA:  Hello! I am pleased to present my first work. Inspired by our challenge, I made a layout with a photo of a happy day, which was a HIGHLIGHT in my life.  The photo was taken last year at the end of May during the time of the cherry blossoms. This month changed my whole life by 360 degrees and made it happy. :) To create a SUNSET background, I used a stunning collection from Prima Marketing called "Moon Child" and magical pigment colors from Lindy's Gang.

KATRIN: HIGHLIGHT is a difficult word to explain in Italian.  With this word we describe many different things.  We use it in art to talk about light in paintings, and it is also used in everyday life to tell about the most important moments.  In this art journal, I wanted to use the same word to highlight the light of winter, together with the moment in which our dog entered our lives, illuminating them with his presence. - in Lanciano.  For the SUNSET colors I used acrylic paint By Sennelier.  I love this brand.  I applied the colors with a spatula.  This time, I used vermillion red, primary yellow, and fluo orange.  I defined the edges with watercolour indigo blu and white gesso.

PRIYA: For the word inspiration, I used the picture of our cute niece, who came to our world in 2019 and it became the HIGHLIGHT of last year for all of us.  For the creation part, I used a lot of SUNSET colors and purple, pink, and yellow flowers.

ANNA: The word, HIGHLIGHT, makes me automatically think of my loved one.  We found each other quite late, both after having some difficult experiences and life challenges.  I find this love and relationship very mature on one hand, and very fresh and "teenage-like" on the other.  He is my favourite person in the world and our time together is also a highlight for me.  SUNSET colors were a very good background to the story on my mind.  I made them a little bit softer, more on the pastel side, to make the whole project more delicate.

ELLE: My entry for January is an Art Journal spread inspired by one of the HIGHLIGHTS of this year, which was our trip to the theatre to see HAIR the Musical. It was the 50th anniversary of this show as it was first performed in 1969, in New York City.  It was really very good, the cast was amazing, and we had seats in the front row! I also added some song lyrics from the show. Let the sun shine in! For the SUNSET colours, I painted the background in purple, magenta, and orange, and then added another watercolour piece behind the frame. The frames are also watercoloured and die cut.

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,
inspired by the HIGHLIGHT & SUNSET COLOURS Main Challenge!

HEMA: Hello Lovely Ladies... This is my inspiration for this New Year, 2020. "The more you leave out, the more you highlight what you leave in." - Henry Green. For me, art has been one of the best and most memorable HIGHLIGHTS of my life. Good art inspires, good design motivates, and good friends are always there when you need them the most. For the creative part of the challenge SUNSET COLOURS... who doesn't like the sunrise and sunset with their lovely change of colors in the sky, and the mild sun with its gentle warmth! I loved the moodboard colors, and as always, played with them and depicted their blend in my work.  The colors and texture beautify my project.  This is my take on the challenge, and I hope you all love it too and agree with me. Thank you and Hugs XOXO!

HEIKES: How did the word HIGHLIGHT inspire me? My youngest daughter, Mia, is a special highlight in my life... her generation will have to deal with climate changes, plastic garbage, and water shortage. She has chosen to study about water management and agriculture. She is a highlight in my life with her ideas and interest for others. I found a photo of her that was taken on one of her journeys around the world. The photo is taken at a sunset, and I think the colors fit perfectly with the mood board. For the creative challenge SUNSET COLOURS, I have stamped the background in the colors of the sunset.

SABRINA: Hi! Sab here! With great pleasure, I am showing you my first project. I have many different HIGHLIGHTS in my life, but my daughter is at the centre of everything! In December, 2019, she turned 8 and is all my joy! The SUNSET COLOURS are perfect for her, she's my sun!!!!!

CECILIA: One of the HIGHLIGHTS of my life is my husband - the right person always shows you how to be the best person you can be, and to discover your strength and creativity. I started scrapbooking seven years ago, and last year started in mixed media. The happiness this gives me is also a highlight for me.
I've used beautiful SUNSET COLORS in purples and blues. I filled the project with some of Frank's things that I found in his tool box. Even a watch was there.

JOLANDE: A HIGHLIGHT in your life does not necessarily have to be something very nice. For me, the highlight occurred on my missions with the army to Afghanistan. I have learned so much about myself, winning, losing, courage, and not giving up. Not something you choose, it happens to you. I used a photo of SUNSET COLORS with the Chinook in the foreground. Every evening I was happy that the Chinook returned safely.

SARAH: For me, the HIGHLIGHT in my life was the day I became a mother. It was 4 years ago and today, I am still filled with joy at the recent birth of my daughter. My two children are my happiness, and they give me the strength to move forward every day. For the creative challenge of SUNSET COLOURS, I was inspired by the colour yellow that represents my ray of happiness.

HEATHER: One of my creative HIGHLIGHTS for 2019 was the discovery of gelli printing, so I decided to use gelli prints to cover my 2020 desk diary. I used yellows, oranges, and pinks for my SUNSET COLOURS and even added some gold stencilling that looks a bit like sun rays.

DI: One of the HIGHLIGHTS of my life was when I became a grandmother for the first time. I now have three gorgeous little ones, but THIS gorgeous girl was my first, and so holds a special place in my heart. To fit in with the creative part of this challenge being SUNSET COLOURS, I thought I would create my layout in the pinks, purples, & orange tones of a sunset.

DANA: A HIGHLIGHT for me is seeing a favorite band, Big Wreck, play live in a small concert venue in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. My husband and I have followed this band for over 20 years. We have been extremely lucky to see them on almost every major tour, a total of six times. Their latest album is called "...But For The Sun," and it fits perfectly with this challenge! I included some song lyrics on the page that read, "You erase my alone and get me through the day." These words really resonated with me and are true of a good partner and great music. I used a stencil and some molding paste to create a sunburst pattern on a striped transparency. I colored the paste with SUNSET COLOURS OF pink, orange, and yellow dye ink, and then added photos and embellishments in the center of the sunburst. I added touches of gold to my design that catch the light similar to the amber glow of the setting sun.

ANASTASIA: For this challenge, I chose a photo of my daughter, that was captured in an interesting location - the Candy Museum in Philadelphia. It was one of our HIGHLIGHTS in the outgoing "Year of the Pig" (according to the Eastern calendar) so that was the reason I chose this photo. For the creative challenge of SUNSET COLOURS, I decided to repeat the background scenery in the photo, and intertwined pieces of paper with each other. Then I added some paints, texture paste, chipboard, and paper layers.

Our design team has shared their HIGHLIGHTS with you
using spectacular SUNSET COLOURS.
We hope that they will have inspired you to play along.
