October 2019 Mini Challenge - TRICK and/or TREAT

Will your Halloween be full of TRICKS... or TREATS?

Show us in our Mini Challenge this month!

The Mini Challenge runs on the last week of each month and is for:
cards, tags, ATCs and postcards only.

ATCs, or Artist Trading Cards, are small works of art, about 2.5 by 3.5 inches
or 64 x 89 mm. Postcards are usually an A6 size, which is a quarter
 of an A4 ie, around 4 x 6 inches or 105mm x 148mm. If your postcard
is bulky, you could always pop it in an envelope to mail it.

This challenge requires you to use a specific word on your project.
We must see the actual word
You have only one week - until the last day of the month - to enter, so be quick!

Entry for the Mini Challenge is only
via our Facebook page under the relevant post.

The winner, as voted by our DT, will receive a $25 USD value prize
from THE DUSTY ATTIC, our fabulous Mini Challenge sponsor!

You can see all our rules under the RULES tab above.

Is this word inspiring you to make a mini creation? We sure hope so!

We are looking forward to seeing your take on this challenge!

You have until 11:59 pm EST on Wednesday, October 31,
to share your entry on our Facebook page.

Special Guest Spotlight on
ANASTASYA TISEVICH

We have one fabulous guest designer to introduce to you today,
and we know that you will love her and her creativity!

Let's learn a little more about Anastasya Tisevich through her own words:

Hi everyone! It's Anastasya here! I live in a beautiful little Ukrainian village with my lovely husband and the best in the world big black dog. I have one big love and passion in my life, and it is scrapbooking. I love all styles and materials. I can create complex canvases and simple cards in the same day. I think it's an incredible form of art in which I can express my creativity fully. I am so happy to be the guest designer this month at More Than Words and want to say thank you to all the MTW team for this opportunity!

You can visit Anastasya's Instagram account right HERE.

Here is a reminder of our October Main Challenge
COSTUME & BLACK BACKGROUND
followed by Anastasya's gorgeous creative interpretation.

Read below as Anastasya describes in her own words how she was inspired
by our word and how she chose to incorporate our creative challenge:

For this fabulous challenge, I created a textured canvas. This project is about a lady who has a main passion in life. Her passion is 'haute couture' fashion, so of course COSTUMES are what she dreams, designs and creates!

For the creative challenge, I created a BLACK BACKGROUND full
of different textures and added bright touches of white gold
and rose gold using Finnabair's metallic waxes.

Let's take a look at some details:

What a wonderful interpretation of our word COSTUME! We also absolutely love the pink and red hues that Anastasya chose to combine with her BLACK BACKGROUND. It is a stunning project that we are sure will inspire you to get creative too!

A big THANK YOU to Anastasya for joining us as our October Special Guest!

We hope that you will take inspiration from Anastasya's creation
and that you will play along with our October Main Challenge.

You have until October 31 to link up!

October 2019 Main Challenge
COSTUME & BLACK BACKGROUND

October is here, and with it comes a brand new More Than Words challenge!
Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - COSTUME
Creative Challenge - BLACK BACKGROUND

What does the word COSTUME inspire you to create?
You can choose to use the actual word somewhere on your project
or simply be inspired by it. Please explain in your blog post
how it inspired you if it isn't obvious in your work.

We want to see your dark and mysterious side by using
a BLACK BACKGROUND on your project. Whether your costume
is a Halloween outfit, a wedding dress or a work uniform,
the theme is up to you, but your background must be black!

Please check out all our challenge rules in the RULES tab above.

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,
inspired by the COSTUME & BLACK BACKGROUND main challenge!

Priya: I love COSTUMES with lots of drama like heavy warrior suits or big head gears. On this page I used a photo depicting my favorite kind of costume. BLACK BACKGROUNDS are great to work with. Everything you add to it just pops up!

France: Venice masks were my COSTUME inspiration for this layout. I enjoyed seeing many decorative pieces during our vacation in Italy last fall. I made my BLACK BACKGROUND on a piece of 12x12 cardboard with a coat of black gesso. A bit of stenciling with white gesso, gold modeling paste and touches of a white spray give this page an artistic feel, just like the mask.

Nuneka: When I think of COSTUMES the thought comes to mind how sometimes we are afraid of showing ourselves as we truly are. My page incorporates this theme. Using a BLACK BACKGROUND allows me to show how we can glow, even when just being true to ourselves.

Nicole: Being the month of October, I was inspired by the word to create a Halloween-themed layout. This was my niece's first Halloween way back in 2005, and she was dressed up in the cutest witch COSTUME. For this kid's page, I decided to use a fun  BLACK BACKGROUND with white polka dots and added lots of bright colours to contrast with the dark base.

Daisy: For this challenge I used a photo of a cosplay Sakura in her wonderful COSTUME as she is one of my favorite characters of the Naruto manga. To get a BLACK BACKGROUND I used heavy black gesso on a thick 12x12 chipboard. To work my background I used the watercolor Metallic Accent from Prima because it comes out well on the black as well as silver modeling paste from TCW.

Daria: When I reflected on this month's word, I came across this photo of a friend in a red chic COSTUME. This lady is fond of astrology, so I created a layout in her style. I really like working with a BLACK BACKGROUND although I rarely do it. I love how this turned out.

Anat: We often use COSTUMES to explore a fantasy world where magic happens to everyone. And a BLACK BACKGROUND is the perfect base for a magical project. In my 3D art journal spread, I tried to get into this atmosphere.

Di:  I have to say this challenge really pushed me out of my comfort zone as I didn't have a photo depicting a COSTUME. I therefore decided to find one on the internet and create a real fantasy page featuring this one I found. I have gone with all metallics and shimmers as they really pop against the BLACK BACKGROUND.

Edith: To represent this month's word, I chose a picture of one of my favorite superheroes, Aquaman. Most would agree that his COSTUME is very eye-catching! I loved using a BLACK BACKGROUND with accents of aqua and white to create my page.

Mary: For the word inspiration COSTUME, I chose a photo of a lady in a red and black mask which I love. I decided to give a mysterious feel to my page as on the photo. I love working on BLACK BACKGROUNDS so this creative challenge was definitely one of my favorites.

Hina: The word COSTUME inspired me to create a journal page about the life of a Queen, her royal status and how she perfectly needs to carry herself all the time. Whatever the circumstances, she has to dress up for the show! I thought that gold on a BLACK BACKGROUND would embody perfectly this page fit for a queen.

Rosalie: I love the thoughts evoked by the word COSTUME... the drama, colours, textures and layers which is what I tried to create on my page. I wanted to dress up my simple BLACK BACKGROUND like I would dress up in a costume.  I used a black and white photo of a child playing on the beach which I found complemented the dramatic concept of my creation.

Alicja: For this month's challenge I've not only created a layout using a black base, but I've also used a photo with a BLACK BACKGROUND. In this case, the word COSTUME brings to mind personalities and people's different natures and personas. We can change them more or less to find the balance in life.

Heather: The powerful makeup of my child caught my eye in this photo. She was acting in a friend's movie at uni and was wearing a borrowed COSTUME. I added movie-themed elements to the page such as the lights around the frame and the old movie camera. The trail of stars across my BLACK BACKGROUND added movement and a touch of fun!

Caroline: As a mother of 3, Halloween and COSTUMES have a big place in our hearts when October arrives. It is my favorite holiday. Each year I find the perfect disguise for my boys. This one is a mad scientist that my oldest one wore a few years ago. We love to go in the neighborhood to collect treats. I used a solid BLACK BACKGROUND for the creative challenge.

Oh, we don't think we've ever had such a dark reveal before!
