Introducing 4 new DT members
... and saying farewell to 5 others!

We are thrilled to announce the addition of 4 wonderful ladies to
the More Than Words Design Team for the rest of the year!

However, bringing new talent in means of course having to say goodbye
to some equally talented designers which is always very bittersweet.

Ekaterina, Jennifer, Kareen, Sanderijn & Elena we want to say THANK YOU
for your time and dedication over the past months
as well as your exceptionally beautiful creations based on our challenges!
We wish you all the best of what life has to offer in the future
with much creative inspiration and awesome opportunities.
You are simply fabulous and we are very grateful to have had you on our team!

And now, without further ado, let us introduce to you our 4 new designers:

"Hello!  Nice to meet you here on the More Than Words blog!  My name is Heike aka Heike's AugenBlick on the web.  I live in the oldest city of the beautiful country of The Netherlands  with my biggest supporter and love of my life, Jörgen.  Our love is crowned with 2 girls and 2 boys, 1 son-in-law and 3 lovely grandchildren.  I always worked as a stay-at-home-mom, but now, with 4 grown-up children, I have more time for me and my passion, scrapbooking. My style?  Hmm... vintage, modern, abstract... I don't know.  But one thing is for sure, it's always colourful.  I am thankful for this opportunity to scrap together with an amazing team."

"Hello, I'm Janice Nicholls and I live in a small country town in South Australia.  I have been scrapbooking for over 10 years. My 2 children and my family all feature in my work. I'm not sure that I have a particular style; I love to try new techniques... not always successful, but it's fun trying! I like creating with smaller photos, lots of layers, small clusters and leaving some white space. I also enjoy creating cards for family and friends. I have been very fortunate to be part of a few amazing design teams, had the opportunity to guest design and lucky enough to have had some of my layouts published in Scrapbook Memories and Scrapbook Creations.  I am honoured and very excited to be amongst this talented bunch of girls here at More Than Words!"

"Hi! My name is Mary and I live in Greece with my husband and our 3 children.  I met scrapbooking 3 years ago and since then it has been my obsession!  My style is mixed media, with a little vintage and some shabby chic touches. I usually create layouts, but I also love to design tags, cards, mini albums and canvases as well. I like to test my creative ability and always try to improve my skills. I find a lot of my inspiration in everyday life and when I scrap I feel so happy that I totally forget everything about me. I am so honoured to be on some wonderful design teams, and being a member on the More Than Words DT is like a dream come true to me!"

"Hello!  I'm Torsa, I live in Maryland, USA, with my husband and our 8 year old daughter.  My family is my backbone!  I am a software engineer by profession, but art is my passion, my dream and the something I breathe for. I have studied fine arts (oil painting, acrylics and charcoal) for almost 20 years! I have started my mixed media journey last year.  I love colours! I need almost 10 different shades of every colour.  My favorite colours are teal and blue. Nowadays, my new love are stamps!  I also adore art journaling and always try to depict a story through my creations.  I am addicted to coffee, and I love to spend hours at my studio with my coffee!  I am so excited to now be creating for the More Than Words blog!"

June 2017 Mini Challenge - HE

It's time once again for another More Than Words Mini Challenge!

Can you guess what our Mini word is this month?!

In May, we celebrated mothers and the feminine pronoun,
and so in June, it's all about fathers and, yes, you guess it...
Here's how it works:

The Mini Challenge runs on the last week of each month and is for cards, tags and ATCs only.  (ATCs, or Artist Trading Cards, are small works of heart, about 2.5 by 3.5 inches or 64 x 89 mm). This challenge requires you to use a specific word on your project. We must see the actual word. You have only one week - until the last day of the month - to enter, so be quick!

Entry for the Mini Challenge is only
via our Facebook page under the relevant post.

The winner, as voted by our DT, will receive a $25 USD value prize
from THE DUSTY ATTIC, our fabulous Mini Challenge sponsor!

You can see all our rules under the RULES tab above.

Is this word inspiring you to make a mini creation? We sure hope so!

Special Guest Spotlight on
OLGA HELDWEIN

It is time for us to feature another fabulous Guest Designer!

Because of the STEAMPUNK element of our Main Challenge this month,
we knew that we had to find a designer who would be able to WOW you
with her steampunk abilities, and one name came to mind right away...

Olga Heldwein is a true mixed media artist with a touch of vintage and industrial
combined with beautiful and sometimes dark overtones. Her style, as well as
her ever growing presence on the international scrapbooking scene, is definitely
admirable and inspiring, and that is why we just had to have her as our June Guest.

Now let's learn a little more about Olga through her own words:

Hello all More Than Words fans!
I'm Olga, a Polish woman living in Berlin.  Ever since I discovered scrapbooking,
I've been totally addicted, and now I spend hours splashing and splattering ink.
I'm always on the lookout for something new, testing new supplies,
new tools and finding new ways of using my 'old' art stash.

My work is either steampunk-y with lots of shiny and metallic objects,
or clean and bright with lots of white space, but always with a vintage feel.
As time has gone on, I gravitated towards mixed media, and now gesso
and gel mediums are always on my work table.

You can visit Olga at the following links:

Here is a reminder of our June Main Challenge FATHER & STEAMPUNK
followed by the wonderful layout that Olga has designed for us!

Read below as Olga describes in her own words how she was inspired
by our word and how she chose to incorporate our creative challenge:

First of all, let me just say that it is such an honor to be
in the spotlight this month here on More Than Words blog,
and it was really a pleasure to take on this awesome challenge!

Inspired by the word, I created a layout with a very special photo of my Dad.
This is my first time scrapbooking a picture of my FATHER as his photos
have extra personal value for me.  We had an amazing connection
and the quote that I chose for my page speaks so true to my heart.

To STEAMPUNK my layout, you can see that I added
lots and lots of metallic accents as in clock faces, gears, cogs,
buckles, wires, and more.  I also used a lot of my favorite mediums and techniques
and had a lot of messy fun with this page.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope that you will all try out this challenge!
My fingers are crossed for all of you as I know that there are fabulous prizes
up for grabs and I wish you as much creative fun as I had.
Have a nice and creative day!

We told you that we had found the perfect 'steampunk' designer, didn't we?

Olga sure didn't disappoint with her rusty mechanical composition
on this very special tribute layout to her father.  We also absolutely love
the quote that she chose to add to her page - it is so very fitting to our word!

Here are some close-ups of her work:

A big THANK YOU to Olga for joining us as our June Special Guest!

We hope that you will take inspiration from Olga's creation
and that you will play along our June Main Challenge, if not already done.

You have until June 30th to link up!

We were very touched by the story behind Vija's layout of her mother as a little girl.
Vija reminded us that not everyone is blessed with a great relationship with
their mother while growing up, but despite hardship and complication,
there is still a strong bond between mother and child.
As Vija points out in her blog post, forgiveness and compassion
are synonymous to love and family, and those are most important.

June 2017 Main Challenge
FATHER & STEAMPUNK

Hello all!  We are thrilled to have you back with us today
as we reveal to you a brand new Main Challenge for the month of June!

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.
The challenge is open to layouts, canvases and art journal pages only.
Make sure to carefully read our instructions below.

Word Inspiration - FATHER
Creative Challenge - STEAMPUNK

What does the word FATHER inspire you to create?
You can choose to use the actual word somewhere on your project
or simply be inspired by it.  Since, as you are aware, words are an integral
part of our challenges, we want to know how this month's word stimulated
your creative process, so please do explain in your blog post how it inspired you!

We chose a creative challenge that is a bit more masculine in nature
than last month's, quite obviously. We absolutely love the STEAMPUNK trend
and how it has completely taken over the art of scrapbooking these last years.
Gears, cogs, sprockets as well as top hats, goggles, mustaches..
these are all perfect for a homage to fathers!  We cannot wait to see
how you will incorporate this vintage yet futuristic style onto your project.

VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT MTW RULES!
To be eligible to win, you have to incorporate both requirements of the challenge,
the word inspiration (FATHER) and the creative challenge (STEAMPUNK).
Just look at our designers' projects and descriptions as examples.
You must also include our board image as well as a link to our blog in your entry post.
AND you may combine our challenge with no more than 2 other challenges.

Please check out all our challenge rules in the RULES tab above.

Sanderijn: I took this picture myself in the hospital, a day after our little girl was born. This picture of my daughter and her FATHER is one of my most treasured photos. The creative challenge was a real challenge for me! I don't use STEAMPUNK related embellishments very often on my projects, but with this new collection of papers, I finally got an idea. I made a masculine layout with some steampunk items like the clockwork in the background and the metal stars, but I still kept it very soft and elegant so it would fit this page and picture perfectly.

Kareen: I was inspired by the word FATHER to scrap a picture of my boyfriend with his son.  The love of a father is priceless!  I added a touch of STEAMPUNK to the layout by adding cogs and gears and lots of metal accents to finish this page full of love.

Kavitha: The word 'care' is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of my dad. My FATHER always makes sure everything is fine for everyone and puts himself last. For the creative challenge, I've used lots of gears, clock and wings
to give out a STEAMPUNK feel.

Anguree: I was inspired by this photo of my FATHER and I. I have loved STEAMPUNK since the moment I discovered mixed media and am a sucker for any clocks, gears, light bulbs or metal accents. Yet, I also wanted to include flowers and a little softness. You see, my dad has a way of noticing the small details. I remember him calling me over to show me little flowers or critters in the garden and those small things that easily pass you by if you don't pay attention. He is a part-time minister and only started following this career path when he was much older. In fact, I was in my senior year in high school when he commenced his studies. This layout represents to me how we should dream big and follow those dreams. When I am worried about something, my dad always tells me not to worry because he is praying for me. This layout is really personal as it reminds me of all those special memories we share. Thanks Dad! I love you and, though we don't talk much,
I really appreciate all that you do for me!

Lilibleu: To illustrate this month's theme, I chose this picture of my husband helping our son to climb and walk on the rocks on a hike by the sea. This is how I imagine the role of a FATHER: supporting, encouraging and helping his children to move forward in life. About the STEAMPUNK challenge, although I flourished my page, the background is full of gears, metallic elements and wire mesh chipboard
evoking industrial materials.

Elena M: For my layout, I took a photograph of my grandFATHER. He was a good, decent, intelligent man. He loved to grow fruits and vegetables in his garden. I was his only grandchild and he loved me so much. For the STEAMPUNK creative challenge, I have added many items from chipboard (gears, bulbs, dial indicators) to wire and metal brads which allude to how my grandfather could do many things
with his hands.

Aga: My FATHER always says you must take your life in your own hands and live it 100%. So with that in mind, I created a canvas to showcase how 'creativity takes courage'.  I STEAMPUNKed my canvas by adding lots of metal accents, wires and even my very own mustache.  Daddy, this work is for you!

Valerie: For this challenge, I decided to scrap a picture of my grandFATHER who died a few years ago from Alzheimer's disease. This is a very important photo for me because it is the only one that I have of him. I got creative by incorporating one clock chipboard, some metal embellishments and a die-cut and flair along
with a STEAMPUNK feather that I drew myself.

Jennifer: My man is a wonderful husband, but above all a great FATHER who is always present for his children. They are most important for him without fail.
He stopped working to be able to take care of them. I am so proud
of the man he became. For the creative challenge, I chose to add
lots of STEAMPUNK style chipboard and decorations.

Caroline: I chose a picture of my grandFATHER. This vintage photo was a perfect fit for the STEAMPUNK style. My grandfather was not a good father, but this is part of life. He redeemed his faults by becoming a loving grandpa and I really miss him now. He passed away when I was 12. The quote I used was perfect for our family story.
I choose to remember the good about him.

Elena T: I loved this challenge! It was so fun to create this project. I took a photo of my boys and one of my husband in his youth and brought them all together,
a FATHER and his sons. Clocks and some metal embellishments helped me
achieve the STEAMPUNK look.

Di: This is a photo of my great grandFATHER Robert Alexander McLelland (1879-1952) and I thought it would be perfect for a STEAMPUNK layout. If you look closely, you can see he is even wearing a fobwatch.  I really enjoyed this challenge!

Nicole: I intended to create a page about my FATHER this month. However, while looking through my 'to scrap' photo box, I found this photo of my maternal grandfather and thought it would be perfect for the creative challenge.
Pepere Allard was very young during this pose, long before I came into the world,
and I so wish I could have known him then. I knew him as a big burly man who was
renowned for his loud laugh, his wooden cane and his beautiful vegetable garden.
Sadly, he passed away when I was just 15. I went STEAMPUNK on my page by adding lots of cogs and gears, some metal and some chipboard, as well as a fancy mustache and a top hat brad.

Pamela: The photo depicts my new grandson after his birth on April 5th of this year snuggling with daddy and I thought it was perfect for the FATHER challenge.
I used cogs, clocks and even the coach emblem that fell off my purse last year to catch the STEAMPUNK essence.

What a fabulous talented bunch we have here at More Than Words!
