Celebrating 150 Challenges With Special Guest Designer HEIKE'S AUGENBLICK

This month, we are very pleased to feature some special guests who are all former More Than Words Team members!  Our next special guest is our fabulous friend, Heike from Heike's Augenblick.

We invite you to get to know Heike a little better through her interview below.  Please also visit her social links which are listed in her Artist Bio.

Artist Bio

I am Heike aka Heike 's AugenBlick.  I was born and raised in Germany.  I live with my hubby Joergen in the oldest city of The Netherlands.  Together we have four grown up kids (two daughters and two boys).  One daughter in law, one son in law and three grand kids.  I am an early morning crafter, that means I spend my creative hours mostly before lunchtime. My other hobbies are gardening, painting, cycling, reading books, Tai Chi and snorkeling. Yes that is a lot, I know!!  I am a vegetarian, no fish, no meat, no alcohol.  I love 80% dark chocolate and a cup of Earl grey with almond milk. Yummy yummy!!  I like red and blue clothes and I wear always chunky jewelry.

So that is enough from me. If you are interested to follow me on my social media accounts. You can find me always under:  Heike 's AugenBlick ( by the way AugenBlick means = moment)

Thank you MTW for the opportunity to be a guest designer.
Happy creating everyone and good luck with the MTW challenge.
Xoxo

Q & A with Heike

How long have you been creating art?
Actually, I've been creating all my life.
Painting, knitting, cross-stitching, sewing and and and... I started paper crafting 2010. I started with cards, tags and mini books Four years later 2014 I included 30cm x 30cm mixed media scrapbooking pages, art journaling and junk journaling to my creative paper work.

What is your favourite type of art supply or product?
I don't have to think long about it, black gesso or black acrylic.

What's your favourite colour palette to use?
Actually I am not afraid of strong colours.
But my two favourite palettes are:
1. Cadmium red, orange, ultramarine blue and a little bit of light turquoise.
2. Pastel pink, gold, white, black and a touch of dark green.

Our very first challenge was in January 2016 - how has your art changed since then and how have you grown as an artist?
I think at the beginning of my scrapbooking time I let myself be influenced a lot by trends and other crafters. Which was absolutely okay for me and I learned a lot.   After I think a couple of years  of practicing with others style, the time came when I had enough confidence in myself to spread my wings and find my own style.  As I said I started with simple cards (a word and one stamp image on a white card) mini books where I used paper kits, no mediums.  Scrapbooking pages with one photo and a little bit watercolour.

In 2014 I started with experimenting on white background paper with stamps and stencils. This is still my favourite thing to do.  A little bit later I also dared to do mixed media backgrounds.  Today I can say I have my own style.  I still grow as an artist.  Now I am teaching scrapbooking in mixed media style in classes and online workshops.  At the moment I design for the companies:  13arts and Scrap Fx.

What's your favourite thing about More Than Words Challenge?
MTW is not only a challenge site for crafters, it is also a big community. I think MTW is the only challenge site where crafters around the world come together.  That makes MTW so beautifully unique.

Heike's Interpretation of our June Main Challenge

Enchanted flower nr. 150...

I started my art journal page with lots of BOTANICALS stamp images
in green colour shades.  After that I added some numbers to my background. A little bit colour splatters also in green colour.  The next step was adding black gesso and black stamping images.  For my focale point I added a fussy cut rose and I painted a black frame for the flower.  My title " ENCHANTED Flower nr. 150" which is written with a white gel pen as finale touch.

Thank you Heike for sharing this beautiful art journal page with us!  We love how you incorporated the bonus challenge into the title of your project "Enchanted flower nr. 150". We hope that Heike's take on the Main Challenge inspires you to enter this month.

Here's a reminder of our current Main Challenge which you can enter here on the blog or in our Facebook group:

June 2022 Main Challenge - Enchanting & Botanicals {Celebrating 150 Challenges}

Hello everyone and Happy June! This is a very special month for us here at More Than Words as we are celebrating our 150th challenge this month!  We missed celebrating our 100th challenge due to the pandemic and then we took a short break, which made this 150th challenge celebration a bit later than planned but we are finally here and we hope you enjoy celebrating with us!

We have a few surprises in store this month but firstly, here comes the challenge details!

All our Main Challenges are now ART JOURNAL Challenges!

Our challenge has two parts, please use both prompts to inspire you:

Word Inspiration:  ENCHANTING
Creative Challenge:  ADD BOTANICALS
Extra credit:  add the number "150" on your project!

As previously mentioned in the Art CafĂ© Facebook Group, we have suspended all sponsored prizes until further notice due to the current world situation, however since this is a special challenge we do have some special prizes for you!

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

We would like you to be inspired by both parts of our challenge - our word inspiration ENCHANTING and our creative challenge - ADD BOTANICALS (and to add "150" if you feel inclined). We can't wait to see what you do!

Let's see what our lovely Design Team have created this month... and see if you can spot the number 150 in the projects!

SHARON FRITCHMAN

Sharon says:  When I saw this challenge, I immediately thought of my friend's cabin. My family and I have been going there for years and have always enjoyed the beautiful BOTANICALS that are sprinkled around the yard. There's also a tiny door at the base of the tree that is next to the front porch. It always made me think it was an entrance to an ENCHANTING fairy tale!

HEATHER MCMAHON

Heather says:  At first I couldn't think what to use for the BOTANICALS part of the challenge but then I remembered that ArtStacks have some stunning botanical pictures in some of "The Homemaker" stacks - on 94 year old paper! I used this stack to make this page about how ENCHANTING old books are.  I stamped the number 150 in the corner to represent More Than Words' 150th challenge!

Lisa says:  When I combined the word prompt Enchanting, with Botanicals, l am instantly immersed into Patricia Collins Wredes' "Enchanted Forest".
Unkempt tangles of flowering vines, plump juicy berries falling from drooping branches and a colourful dance of floral buds floating in the warmth breeze.

Elle says:  I love the idea of enchanting botanicals especially since I will be celebrating Fairy Day this month, so I created a page in my journal with a very enchanting forest fairy surrounded by botanicals and some forest dwelling birds, a quote from Brigitte Bardot, and some dictionary definitions of enchant/ed/ing/ment.  As this is our 150th challenge month, I added a big 150 in the corner of my page.

Kat says:  This month is all about botanical and enchanting motifs, my interpretation is to use pieces of paper with a floral motif and fern leaves reflected through the stencil as a background. This month also sees a special number in my work. This is because the June challenge is our 150th challenge!
I hope you will join in the fun!

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah says:  This month the challenge inspired me to create the enchanted forest with its fantastic creators like here, the fairy just born. The forest is full of secrets that are hidden here in the scenery. I tried my hand at watercolor in my art journal and drawing and really enjoyed the exercise ❤️
