December 2024 - Traditions, Moments & Memories - And An Important Announcement!

 Welcome to our December Challenge!

As this time of year we are energized by the forthcoming Holiday Season and many of us are focused on creating seasonal projects, perhaps Christmas or Winter inspired.  With that in mind we have our December challenge of Traditions, Moments & Memories, challenge number 201, but sadly this will be the last challenge theme on More Than Words blog.

It's the end of an era.

More Than Words have been running fortnightly and monthly challenges for nearly 10 years and in that time, we have had 201 challenges, 120 terrific DT members,  nearly 500 posts, 3000 comments,  over 1100 blog followers, and 1.2 million views.  We have also been very fortunate to have our challenges sponsored by some wonderful papercraft brands over the years who have generously donated prizes to our many, many winners from the very first challenge.

Since 2020, there have been many changes to the world we live in and it has affected all of us in different ways.  Technology has also changed and so has the way we use it.  Unfortunately we have noticed fewer entries to our challenges each year and so with over 200 challenges and ten years under our belt, we feel that it is time to say goodbye to our blog challenge.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have entered, supported, commented, visited and loved our challenge,  We have enjoyed seeing all of your amazing creativity over the years and have loved every minute.

New things are happening!

This will be our final blog challenge, new things are happening next year and we will be back with our final post in January, to tell you all about it and hopefully to announce the winner of this challenge (providing we reach the minimum number of entries).

We can't wait to see what you create this month and what you choose to focus on!  We are almost at the end of 2024 - how has your word of the year worked out for you so far?  Feel free to reflect on your WOTY and include it on your pages this month, together with the monthly prompt or instead of it.  The choice is yours!  Due to changes on Instagram it is harder to see the recent entries on a hashtag, so please also remember to tag us @mtw_challenge so we don't miss your projects.

ELLE - EOTC

This is the 12th and final page in my MTW 2024 junk journal and this one has an obvious theme for me in December! Christmas for me has always been about the excitement of Santa, Christmas trees and the possibility of snow.  (Less excited about that last one now!) So I have included all of those things on my page, and the little girl behind the window is standing next to a big Christmas tree.  The window opens to reveal all.   More photos and details on my blog.

HEATHER MCMAHON

This challenge made me think about what Christmas traditions we have in our family and I realised that we always have a Christmas tree. Sometimes it's so tall it touches the ceiling and other times it's small enough to sit on a table but we always have one regardless.
On my page, the Christmas tree and the reindeer names are both from ArtStacks' 'Christmas Quotes' MiniStack. I stole the idea for the hanging "Christmas" word baubles from a similar design in the same pack.
I hope you can join us in our last blog challenge ever!

December Main Challenge - WISHES and TREES

Hello everyone and welcome back to our regularly scheduled Main Challenge!

This month, we have made some changes and we want you to use our challenge board to create an ART JOURNAL PAGE!

Our challenge has two parts, please use both prompts to inspire you:

Word Inspiration:  WISHES
Creative Challenge:  TREES

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

This is an art journalling challenge so for example you could use the word WISHES on your page or make a list of your wishes at this time of year and add that to your page! Some of us are celebrating Christmas at this time of the year, but not all of us so it doesn't have to be a winter or Christmas page. Use our creative challenge of TREES to add some trees to your page, any kind of trees, it's up to you!

Sharon says:  To me, there is nothing more beautiful than seeing TREES lit up against a December, star filled sky. And what makes it even better is falling snow! I remember making many wishes while gazing into a similay sky while growing up. I wish everyone a very happy holiday season this year! (I used the ArtStacks Trees and Leaves Corestack to help depict that December sky!!!)

LISA OXLEY

Lisa says:  This creative "Wishes" to enjoy the Great Outdoors, after 4 months of lockdown.

AGA MIRKOWSKA

Aga says:  The most important TREE in december is of course our Christmas TREE. I also used some TREES cut out from a magazine glued in the background. I hope your dreams will come true in the New Year and I WISH you all you're WISHING for.

HEATHER MCMAHON

Heather says:  I made my ArtStacks TREES Christmassy by simply adding gold stars. I love working with non-traditional Christmas colours.  Sending you my best WISHES for peace, hope and love this Christmas!

YULIA POPKOVA

Yulia says:  December is preparation for Christmas and New Years. We always decorate the Christmas tree and the house for the Holiday.  May all Christmas wishes come true!

ELLE - EOTC

Elle says:  As soon as I saw the word prompt it made me think of the old Scottish saying "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride" and so I knew that's what I wanted to work with for the theme of my art journal page.   I wanted to create a night scene with a horse and a dark forest of trees, and used these new Lynne Perrella stamps from Paperartsy.  As I was creating the page I thought why not have a flying horse, much more exciting than just a regular horse, and then added the stamp of the four little girls as another interpretation of the saying is "we all would ride".  If you look really closely you will see that the little girls have trees for legs too!  After painting my page, I carefully wrote out my quote with a gold pen.

KAT PALECZNY

Kat says:  December is a time of anticipation for the Christmas tree in my family. It is also a time for making wishes, my wish to you, Live a full life.

This year we have changed to a Regional Prize structure, whereby there will be multiple Main Challenge Winners, one or more for each Region.  The number of Winners/Prizes for each Region is dependent on the number of Sponsors for that Region.  Some of our Sponsors remain as International Sponsors but many are now Region specific. It is now more important than ever that you add your NAME and COUNTRY to your Inlinkz entries!

Our Fabulous Sponsors this quarter include:
