SEPTEMBER 2020 2nd Reveal of Main Challenge - BOOKS and BOOK PAPER

Welcome back to the 2nd Reveal of our SEPTEMBER Main Challenge
at More Than Words!

Book paper – the unsung hero of crafty stash!

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - BOOKS

Creative Challenge - BOOK PAPER

HELPFUL TIPS FOR THE CHALLENGE

Many of us love BOOKS – do you have a favourite? Does a grandparent read to your child? Is your child getting books ready for school or are they having a special Book Day? Or maybe you’d love to create a special book just for you. We need to see in your project how our word inspired you. If it isn’t obvious in your work, then please explain it in your post.

Of course, we can’t have books without BOOK PAPER! Book paper can be such fun to add to projects and we want to see it somewhere on yours!

Elle: When I was a kid, two of my favourite hobbies were reading and origami. I don't know where the obsession came from but I spent a lot of time doing both hobbies. I also had BOOKS about origami and if I wasn't reading about how to fold paper, I was actually folding paper. This time I decided to combine both things and fold some BOOK PAPER from a damaged book so I don't feel so bad about defacing a book. This one could not be saved or read so now it is being used and made beautiful in other ways. A little recycling doesn't hurt either.

Anna: Well - I took our word inspiration quite literally this time. :)  I decided to alter a book. Some time ago I bought myself some old BOOKS (I also receive old unwanted books from my friends sometimes). BOOK PAPER is something I really like to use when I craft. This was one of those old books. Half of the pages are already gone, ;) but I thought it would be great to use this amazing cover and give the book a second life. :) Maybe it will be one of my art journals? Who knows!  Of course I also used a piece of book paper in the central frame. :)

Daisy: For me, BOOKS are a way to live an adventure. I really like to escape with a fantastic novel. This pinterest photo expressed exactly the image I have of reading. For the creative twist, I layered my photo with an old piece of BOOK PAPER.

Katrin: For this challenge, I was inspired by one of my favorite BOOK authors, Edgar Allan Poe, and his poem 'The Crow'. I used BOOK PAPER in the layers of my project.

Rosalie: I love spending time reading and have so many places in my house to store all of my BOOKS. I can't give any of them away. Reading with a cup of tea is one of my favourite things to do, to take time out of our busy world. I have added BOOK PAPER as an embellishment around the main feature.

Priya: My Journal Page for this month. I'm a book lover and in my house everyone loves books. My parent's place is literally a library. You can get all kinds of magazines and books. My dad is also a poet and 3 of his books have already been published. For the BOOK part of the challenge, I created this page in one of my MBA books and I have another copy of the same book. I also used some torn BOOK PAGES of a very old book behind my photo. The photo also relates to the BOOK challenge inspiration.

SEPTEMBER 2020 Main Challenge - BOOKS and BOOK PAPER

Heikes: My inspiration for you is a layout created on 13@rts paper where I glued a "BOOK PAPER" collage. My book pages come from a book that belonged to my mother. I also put book pages behind the photo of my mother. BOOKS did not play a major role in my parent's world, in contrast to myself... I read one or two books a week. I recently became the proud owner of an e-book reader. I am interested in many genres: crime stories, fantasy, women or historical novels. I am currently reading the series of the seven sisters of Lucianda Riley. When I read a book I need silence and then I dive into the world of the book. I don`t hear anything anymore. Often it happens that my husband has to call me several times before I notice that he has spoken to me... Yeah I am a real "book-worm".

Cecilia:  I grew up with piano sheet music BOOKS, because my mom is a concert pianist and composer. I can't remember a day that I didn't enjoy hearing her play the piano. That's why, for this month's challenge, I dedicated my project to her and the love of music that she shared with us. A piece of piano music BOOK PAPER is the perfect embellishment. My mom still plays  the piano beautifully!

Dana: I love a good BOOK! I recently finished reading "Midnight Sun" by Stephenie Meyer, which is part of the Twilight Saga told from vampire Edward Cullen's point of view. I included BOOK PAGES from a dictionary with words that reinforced themes from the book. I also added a quote from Edward. I'm still Team Edward after 15 years! There are two more books planned in this saga and I can't wait to read them.

Heather: I used the BOOK and BOOK PAPER challenges by journalling about our book club and creating my page in a book. I really enjoyed this challenge. I hope you do too!

Anastasia: For the September challenge I made an altered mixed-media project using a real BOOK for the base and BOOK PAGES to create layering.
Book pages really often help give interest, and are suitable for layering in many projects.

Sarah: This month the word BOOKS inspired me on this canvas. I chose to take a picture of my husband's typewriter because he has always dreamed of writing his book. He wrote it but never published it. As embellishments, I created small books from a sculpturing type paste that hardens. In the background of my canvas, I used pieces of old BOOK PAPER to layer with.

Jolande: There is nothing better than sitting on an easy chair with a good BOOK.

Yulia: Nowadays, when everyone reads books in electronic form, old editions are pleasant to hold in your hands and look through the yellowed BOOK PAPERs. Old BOOKS inspire creativity. I found this book by an unknown author in the entrance of the house, and now use it as an artbook. The book got a second life! I used spray from Lindy's and the paper tag is from 7 Dots.
