March 2020 2nd Reveal of Main Challenge - FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO

Today brings a 2nd wave of inspiration from our Design Team.
Check out how they were inspired by our
March 2020 Main Challenge - FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO.

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - FOOD
Creative Challenge - SQUARE PHOTO

Instagram pics come to mind for this one! Do you have a yummy FOOD photo to share? Or maybe you have a family snap of a barbeque, a picnice, or a romantic dinner? We want to know about the special food you've eaten, or an event focussed around food. We need to see in your project how our word inspired you. If it isn't obvious in your work, then please explain it in your post. Add a SQUARE PHOTO to your project. We don't mind if it's an Instagram photo or if you've cropped a standard photo, so long as it's square! If you don't want to add a photo, we want to see a square element on your project.

Please check out ALL our challenge rules in the RULES tab above.

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,
inspired by the FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO Main Challenge!

Sabrina: Hi Sab here! This is a really great challenge this month... because ... I love food! I love cake! In this SQUARE PHOTO is a picture of my fav cake, cheesecake!!!! This is a photo I took during a beautiful weekend full of laughter and good FOOD! And what's your fav?

Daisy: Sushi is my favorite food. I'm totally crazy about it. I love sharing this meal with my children. When we eat sushi, we feel very festive, and we always have a pleasant time. I used this appetizing FOOD photo of sushi that I found on pinterest and printed it in a square format.

ELLE: "So Much Cake, So Little Time" is my take on the FOOD March Challenge.  This is a constant problem isn't it? I created this Art Journal page using paper from Maja Design - Little Street Cafe, and the cardboard letters and frames, as well as cake photos are all recycled from food packaging. I also printed a SQUARE PHOTO of Marie Antoinette, who famously liked a bit of cake!

HEMA: My take on this month's FOOD challenge is "People who love to eat are always the best people". I'm a foodie and love lucious, fruity stuff the best... but I also love cakes and ice cream... yummmmm... totally! I have used SQUARE PHOTOS for the challenge, and we all live for one SQUARE meal... RIGHT guys....!! Hope you enjoy this yummy, luscious take on the challenge.

Lanusia: There are so many delicious dishes in the world, that no life will be long enough to try them all! Of course, we are used to eating FOOD which is specific to our own country. Every summer our forests are rich in blueberries. We pick them and then freeze them or make yummy jam. You can see a fantastic dessert in the SQUARE PHOTO.  Would you try it?

Anna: Our march challenge was a perfect excuse for me to use one of my Instagram SQUARE PHOTOS of FOOD, which I tend to take quite often. I have a rule not to eat sweets at home, but I love beautiful desserts in restaurants and cafeterias. I made an art journal spread featuring one of these sweet adventures - of course with my loved one, who fortunately shares my love for great desserts.

Rosalie: My favourite type of FOOD is an indulgent, elegant ‘High Tea’. Gorgeous desserts, scones, fresh sandwiches, champagne and exotic tea. It always feels like a time of celebration. The elegant assortment of food is featured in a SQUARE PHOTO.

KATRIN MERAGLIA
Katrin: I love desserts, cakes, biscuits, ice cream... I love good FOOD! In order to create this layout a little differently than I usually do, I made everything with my cricut maker.  For a final touch, I used some metallic brush strokes and finished by adding a SQUARE PHOTO of a delicious tart.

Do all these layouts of delicious food have you drooling???

We hope they have inspired you to play along with our

Main Challenge this month!

March 2020 Main Challenge - FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO

Welcome to March and a new challenge at More Than Words.

We're talking about everyone's favorite topic this month... FOOD!

The first release from our Design Team has much to share with you in the hope that you will be inspired to play along with us this month.

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - FOOD
Creative Challenge - SQUARE PHOTO

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,
inspired by the FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO Main Challenge!

CECILIA: When I think of FOOD, the first thing that comes to mind is Mexican food of course. Tacos are one of the best types of Mexican food. The variety of tacos is huge, but Pastor Tacos are the best! That is why I have framed them in my SQUARE PHOTO and put it on the front of the recipe book that I made for this project! Another favorite Mexican food is Tortilla Soup. I have also placed it in a square photo to embellish the letter box that I altered to use in my kitchen. The letter box has enough space inside to store my recipe book, plus cookware, and also bills that need paying.

YULIA: FOOD... I love ice cream... espcially in the summer!! This SQUARE PHOTO from my smartphone reminds me of a wonderful summer day in the park. I used paper from the collection Aga Baraniak "Bohemian Romance", as well as sprays.

DANA: A highlight of any vacation for me is always the FOOD. I recently returned from a trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic where I enjoyed several delicious meals. I used SQUARE PHOTOS of my favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner on this layout. Papaya and plantains usually made it onto my plate. Both my husband and I loved a plantain dish called Mangu so much that we have prepared it at home, bringing a little bit of the island into our everyday life.

HEATHER: One of my favourite things about travelling is tasting the variety of FOOD. I used a SQUARE PHOTO of the amazing rice paper rolls we had in Cambodia. They were incredible!

HEIKES: How did the word "FOOD" inspire me? It reminded me of the wisdom and quotes from my grandparents that I grew up with. It's the little things that matter in childhood. We were always told as a child "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". Luckily, I can say that the apple is one of my favorite fruits, and as for the doctor... well, I married one! For the creative "SQUARE PHOTO" challenge, I have as a focal point, three 8 cm x 8 cm photos glued on the top of each other and three small photos 3 cm x 3 cm, as embellishments.

JOLANDE: For me, FOOD is the best. Of course I know I have to eat healthy, but... pancakes are my sin. I'm crazy about them! That is why they are featured in a nice SQUARE PHOTO.

DI: For this month's FOOD & SQUARE PHOTO challenge, I thought what better food is there than birthday cake!!! My granddaughter had her 6th birthday the other day and this month's challenge inspired me to scrap the photos. I have two square photos of her and the cake. In the third photo I actually cut her out of the picture and placed her between the other two to create a point of interest.

SARAH: What does the word FOOD inspire? For me, it is chocolate... I love it. When life is going okay I eat it, and when it's not going okay, I eat it then too! Chocolate is pleasure food, but also a comfort food, and I have featured it in a SQUARE PHOTO.

ANASTASIA: I was inspired to create this FOOD layout, by my gluten-free diet. In my SQUARE PHOTO I show an assortment of donuts that can be made using rice, coconut, or almond flour. I love this wonderful retro paper collection "Saucy" by "Authentique" that I found in my scrap-stocks. I really like the expressions on the faces of these "paper" girls!

Do all these layouts of delicious food have you drooling???

We hope they have inspired you to play along with our

February 2020 Main Challenge 2nd Release - THE PAST & RUST

Welcome back to the 2nd release of our Design Team's inspiration
for our January 2020 Main Challenge - THE PAST & RUST

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

Word Inspiration - THE PAST
Creative Challenge - RUST

What does THE PAST make you think of? Do you have childhood memories to share? Perhaps you love everything vintage and want to create in that style. We'd love you to share your stories or creations about something old! We need to see in your project how our word inspired you. If it isn't obvious in your work, then please explain it in your post. To add to the effect, we want to see some RUST on your project.  It can be a rusty piece of metal, something you've added a rust effect to, or even a photo of something old and rusty.  Get your rust on!

Please check out ALL our challenge rules in the RULES tab above.

Now let's see what our fabulous DT has come up with,

inspired by THE PAST & RUST Main Challenge!

ANASTASIA:  I was inspired by the "Game of Thrones" series on this layout. (This time however, we were not able to tame the dragon, because it was made from sweets!) I achieved the effect of RUST with wax (Finnibair), and there is also rust in the design of the paper. For me, it was an interesting experience combining the rust with a dark background.

CECILIA: In my PAST there's a wonderful person I'll always love and remember, my grandfather. Being with him at his office is one of the most happiest memories I have. I played with his typewriter a lot. I added "Hope is Never Lost" because he survived the Mexican Revolution as a child. He was a gentleman. For the RUST part of the challenge I used acrylic paints combined with sand.

DANA: I always feel a connection to THE PAST when I visit my family lake house. The property has been in my family for 4 generations. This photo of my Grandmother, with her Spaniel puppy Taffy, was taken in 1952. The lake house is a place where the family gets together during the summer months, often times adding their dogs to the mix. I used acrylic glaze, paint, and paste to add a RUST effect to chipboard pieces and shells.

DI GARLINGDI: I was inspired by this month's challenge to create this layout about THE PAST. I used lots of vintage sewing ephemera like old scissors, an old thimble and needle threader, and even some labels off old cotton spools. My photo is of the exact old Singer treadle sewing machine that my great grandmother taught me to sew on when I was just a child. For the RUST element, I have given a rust paint effect to the dressmaker's dummy and also the flourish. I really enjoyed this challenge.

YULIA: For our Challenge, I decided to decorate a vintage alarm clock. This is a watch from the 60's that I found at a flea market. A watch is a connection between THE PAST and the present. They still work and remind us how fast time runs. To create a RUST effect, I am using sprays from Lindy's and Finnabair wax "Rich Copper".

HEIKES: How did the word "THE PAST" inspire me?  Actually it was the photo from my mother's past that inspired me to design this layout in honor to her. Because of water damage that we had in our house a long time ago, many photos of my family have been destroyed. In total, I was able to save three original photos of my mother. These photos are now my little treasure from the past. For the creative RUST challenge, I tried to create the effect of rust with the help of acrylic colors: burnt sienna, yellow ochre and orange.

JOLANDE: How has the word PAST inspired me? It was a picture of myself, as a baby in a puddle by the sea... alone... the way I have always stayed. The second photo is at a later time, and I literally walk away from the past. I am moving forward and do not look back, that is not the way I am going. For the creative RUST challenge, I have colored the gear wheels with paint in the colors: burnt siena, dark brown, yellow ochra and teal.

SAB: I really loved this great theme!!! THE PAST and the RUST! The past means a vintage photo, sepia colors, and metal embellishments! Love all these things! I love the RUST effect I added in the middle, and you? Show us your interpretations!

SARAH: Today I share with you my creation for the February challenge. The word PAST immediately inspired the thought of the clock, the passage of time, the memory. For me, the past is also the future and at the same time, the present. For the RUST effect, I altered a Tim Holtz alarm clock with Prima texture pastes. For the interior I chose AB Studio papers.

Our design team has shared their feelings about THE PAST with you
using old RUST colours. We hope that they will have inspired you to play along!
